VEC and its director of design and drafting Adam Davis were featured in a recent Business Journal article on some of the newer technologies being utilized in the local electrical contracting industry.

NECA-IBEW Electricians member contractor VEC was featured in a (Youngstown) Business Journal article this month for its building information modeling, or BIM, capabilities.

“’We do a lot of what’s called BIM, or building information modeling, along with augmented reality and virtual reality,’ says Adam Davis, director of design and drafting at VEC Inc., Girard. It’s more likely you’ll find design engineers peering into a computer screen rather than poring over schematics spread on a large drawing table,” the article says, in part.

One of VEC’s first uses in the Mahoning Valley of the technology was at the racino in Austintown. There, engineers and draftsmen relied on virtual, 3D modeling to design the project’s electrical system, and coordinated their effort with mechanical and HVAC systems in the building.

Not only does 3D modeling help builders and contractors during construction, but it’s also used to help a building manager maintain and manage a facility after construction is complete, Davis said in the article.
