A joint labor-management committee of union electricians and electrical contractors in the Mahoning Valley has established a scholarship at Youngstown State University to help its members earn college degrees.
The Mahoning Valley LMCC (Labor Management Cooperation Committee) Scholarship was funded by an endowment from IBEW Local 64 in Youngstown and the Mahoning Valley chapter of NECA (National Electrical Contractors Association), and will start being awarded in the fall semester of 2016.
“Endowing a scholarship at YSU recognizes our long-standing partnerships with the university, as well as demonstrates our commitment as an industry to promote education, training and career opportunities for our collective members,” said Jim Geller, retired president of Geller Electric, Inc.
Eligible applicants include journeymen electricians with IBEW Local 64 and employees of signatory electrical contractors in the Mahoning Valley. Students pursuing undergraduate degrees in electrical engineering, electrical engineering technology, civil and construction engineering technology, business management and other degrees that benefit the electrical industry are given preference.
Minimum GPA and enrollment status requirements apply, and applicants must be residents of Mahoning, Trumbull or Columbiana counties. For a full description of the scholarship, or to complete an application, contact IBEW Local 64, Mahoning Valley NECA or the YSU Foundation.
