Evets expansion houses fabrication shop, BIM design teams

Evets Fabrication Services, a VEC Inc. company, unveiled its newly constructed 22,000 square-foot expansion in Hubbard last week during a grand opening event that drew more than 100 area business and community leaders, and dozens more during a public open house afterward.

VEC is a NECA-IBEW Electricians member contractor.

Evets/VEC’s expansion in Hubbard features 22,000 square feet of office and production space, as well as state-of-the-art fabrication equipment.

Evets invested $3.2 million in the facility and plans to create 30 jobs fabricating equipment for oil and gas and other industries. The company performed its own electrical services construction on the project, and incorporated LED lighting, dimmers for all offices and motion sensors in bathrooms as part of the building’s energy efficiency applications.

In addition to the state-of-the-art welding equipment and four, 8-ton cranes, the new facility houses VEC’s Building Information Modeling (BIM) and Design Assist teams. Among the capabilities of this group is creating 3D virtual construction models of complex design projects before they’re physically built, therefore reducing uncertainties and potential issues during actual construction. BIM software also incorporates time and cost accuracy into a project’s design and execution.

A VEC animator describes the use of BIM design software to virtually complete a construction project before it’s built on the jobsite. VEC is among the first electrical contractors to adopt this technology.

VEC Owner Rex Ferry said the company is one of few electrical services contractors in the area who have this capability, and it’s one that helped VEC land the electrical services contract at the Austintown Racino.
