IBEW Touts Local Workforce in Effort to Impress Shell Oil


As Shell Oil considers plans to build a billion-dollar ethane cracker plant in Western Pennsylvania, the IBEW is assertively positioning itself to win construction work for its signatory contractors.

Recently an IBEW international film crew was in the Mahoning Valley gathering interviews and footage to include in a sales video touting the IBEW’s unique capabilities to service Shell’s needs with union electricians from among the local workforce.

A homeless shelter in downtown Sharon is expanding into Trumbull County.

Joshua’s Haven is in the process of renovating an old grocery store in Masury in Brookfield Township. On Thursday, students from the fourth-year apprentice class of the Electrical Workers Union were busy putting in new wiring for the building.

Mahoning Valley NECA Elects 2013 Officers


YOUNGSTOWN (February 13, 2013) – Jeff Barber was re-elected president of the Mahoning Valley chapter of the National Electrical Contractors Association (NECA) at its annual election meeting held recently. He will serve a second one-year term as the group’s leader.

Local IBEW Apprentice Program Produces National “Instructor of the Year”


WARREN (February 11, 2013) – Trumbull County union electrician Steve Fife was named the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers’ Joint Apprenticeship and Training Committee’s “Instructor of the Year.”

While he’ll be formally recognized at the IBEW’s national Construction and Maintenance Conference in Washington, D.C. in April, a local celebration was held in Fife’s honor at the IBEW Local 573 Joint Apprenticeship Training Center in Warren.
